Using Zoom

A Zoom account isn’t required to attend a Zoom session. Anyone can join a meeting using the Zoom mobile apps or desktop applications for Windows or Mac. If you have time, you might want to take a minute to go explore their website:’s a video on joining a meeting!

There are resources on the site if you want to familiarize yourself with the application, but don’t worry, anyone can join in without much problem.

1. From your desktop, click the link provided for the month’s online meeting just prior to the start time (the link is included in the president’s monthly dribble email, on the BONS calendar, or can be found under the Zoom Presentation link on the center of the home page)  If you are asked to download Zoom, do so.  In case of technical issues please contact Tim Riggleman (540) 336-3697.

2. It’s that simple!

A few things to keep in mind:

  • There are controls that will help you manage your online image display! There is a mute button, video on/off and display options.
  • If your video is on, please remember, we can see you and any activity in the background.
  • If your mute button is on, we can’t hear you. BUT if you are not muted, we hear EVERYTHING. This includes barking dogs, conversations, you name it! So again, please be manners mindful and mute your computer or phone when you do not want to ask a question or make a statement.
  • The audio (both speaking and listening) will be better with earbuds or headphones as there can often be echoing or feedback when speaking into the built-in computer microphone while listening through the built-in computer speakers. If your internet speed is not very good, we recommend using the audio call-in number in addition to using the app to get the optimal audio experience.

The link will become live on the second Thursday evening of each month at 6:45 pm. The meeting will start at 7:00 pm, so please join a few minutes early in case you need to work out any connection issues. You can join any time prior to the meeting’s end.  (In case of technical issues please contact Tim Riggleman (540) 336-3697)
